Azad Hind was recognised by as many as eleven countries together with Japan, Nanking China, Thailand, Burma, Italy, Germany and the Philippines. The government was given restricted administrative jurisdiction over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, captured by the Imperial Japanese Navy within the war.
